June 30, 2013: Laughs From The Past

 

I added nineteen more ads today, all from February 1986, plus three more Random Pages gallery additions from Peach Sections of The Blade, all by Tom Ensign. The first one is a Friday, 2/7/86 story, “CBS Shuffling Programs In Losing Race With NBC” and also includes several other items about local TV and radio stations. Next are two Thursday, 2/20/86 items, about stereo sound on channel 11 and a CablesSystem Channel 5 / Mercy Hospital series of programs on diabetes. There's also a Friday, 2/28/86 story, “Instantnews Has A New Graphic, Colorful Look” and also includes items about channels 11 and 13. There's one addition to the Channel 11 gallery, a Wednesday, 2/5/86 ad for Toledo Eleven News, “Radio Roosters” and CBS prime-time shows, Mary repeat, “Chicago Hi-Lo,” Foley Square, “Nobody's Perfect,” Crazy Like a Fox, “You Can't Keep a Good Corpse Down” and The Equalizer, “Torn” plus Toledo 11 News Nightwatch and CBS late night show, T.J. Hooker, “The Obsession.” There's one more Toledo 11 News ad among the four additions to News/Special Reports Ads gallery, a Tuesday, 2/18/86 ad for a Jeff Heitz / Jill Olmsted report, “Can Toledo Keep Jeep?” There are also two 13 News ads, including a Wednesday, 2/5/86 ad for a Gordon Ward series of reports, “Laughs from the Past.” The subjects of the series included Soupy Sales, Johnny Ginger, Salty, Bozo and Gordon Ward's wife, Miss Connie of Romper Room. Gordon and Connie Ward are still doing commercials for Cap Avrill II. The other one is a Monday, 2/17/86 ad for a Bill Harris report, “The Colors Black.” There's also one for 24 NewsTonight, a Monday, 2/5/86 ad for a Mike Bowersock series of reports on Toledo's favorite morning radio personalities. Channel 11 was doing a similar series of reports then as well, as shown by the first ad mentioned above as well as another Monday, 2/3/86 TV Guide ad. There's one addition to the Channel 36 gallery, a Tuesday, 2/25/86 ad for the Cinema 36 Prime Time Movie, “Rooster Cogburn” (John Wayne). There are eight additions to the PBS gallery, all for channel 30, including two for The MacNeil / Lehrer Newshour, a Wednesday, 2/5/86 AT&T ad, and a Monday, 2/24/86 ad (Judy Woodruff). Next is another 2/5/86 ad, for a Survival Special, “King Penguins: Stranded Beyond the Falklands.” There's also a Thursday, 2/6/86 ad for Mystery, “Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” and a Friday, 2/7/86 ad for Great Performances, The Cotton Club Remembered” (Cab Calloway). There's a Monday, 2/10/86 ad for American Playhouse, “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” and a Tuesday, 2/18/86 ad for Nova, “The Case of the Frozen Addict” and Frontline, “Tobacco on Trial.” The last one is a Friday, 2/28/86 ad for the movie, “Brigadoon” (Cyd Charisse, Gene Kelly). There's one addition to the Buckeye CableSystem gallery, a Wednesday, 2/19/86 ad for The Blade Instantnews on The CableSystem's channel 11, and one addition to the CableSystem Channel 5 gallery, a Tuesday, 2/25/86 ad for the five-part series, Living Well With Diabetes, presented by the Endocrine and Diabetes Care Center of Mercy Hospital. There's also one addition to the Radio Station Ads gallery, a Thursday, 2/20/86 ad for the 7th annual FM 104 Cabin Fever Sale at the Toledo Masonic Great Hall. The last two ads today are additions to the Other Vintage ads gallery, a Wednesday, 2/26/86 ad for Riverside Urgent Care (The Painless Way to Visit a Doctor) and a Thursday, 2/27/86 full-page ad for The Standard Oil Company.
