October 13, 2013: Mr. McFeely...on the Frogtown Stage

 

I added fourteen more ads today, all from August 1989 plus four more Random Pages gallery additions from Peach Sections of The Blade, all of them by Tom Ensign. The first one is a Saturday, 8/12/89 story, “WSPD Sees All-News Format as What Toledoans Desire.” Next is a Thursday, 8/17/89 story, “Changes at WTOL Relate to Zero-Based Budgeting.” Part of that column told about the cancellation of Patches and Pockets. Channel 11 gave Beve Schwind and Sue Donner the entire library of shows and the sets from the show. If anyone out there still has these tapes, they should figure out a way of putting them online! There's also a Wednesday, 8/23/89 story, “Broadcast of Neptune Photos Set” and also includes other TV and radio items. The last one is a Thursday, 8/31/89 story, “Jeanne Washko Leaving After Tonight's News Show.” There's also an item on High School Quiz and personnel changes at Channel 11. There's one addition to the Channel 24 gallery, a Saturday, 8/19/89 Blade ad for The Editors (No Question Left Unanswered...). Carty Finkbeiner, then administrator of Crackdown, Inc., was the guest. There are two additions to the Buckeye CableSystem gallery. The first one is a Thursday, 8/24/89 ad for the WWF SummerSlam on Impulse pay-per-view. The other one is a Thursday, 8/31/89 ad for The Dan Simrell Show, “Rocket Football Pre-Season Report.” There are nine additions to the ToledoVision 5 gallery, including a Saturday, 8/12/89 ad for Bugs Bunny and Friends, The Wild, Wild West, Hee Haw, Movie Greats, Eerie Street Theatre and USA Tonight / INN News. Next is a Wednesday, 8/16/89 ad for The Dick Van Dyke Show, followed by a Thursday, 8/17/89 ad for Perry Mason, “The Case of the Wary Wildcatter.” There's also a Friday, 8/18/89 ad for Buckeye Baseball, featuring the Cincinnati Reds playing St. Louis, followed by four ads for movies, including a Saturday, 8/19/89 ad for “Dr. Franken” on Eerie Street Theatre.The other three are for The Big Show, a Tuesday, 8/22/89 ad for “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” a Wednesday, 8/23/89 ad for “Benji” and a Thursday, 8/31/89 ad for “The Man With the Golden Arm.” And there's a Friday, 8/25/89 ad for I Love Lucy, “Drafted.” There are also two additions to the Other Vintage ads gallery, both of them full-page ads, The first one is a Monday, 8/28/89 ad for two Food Town sponsored events, “America's Pride” at the Rec Center, and an appearance by Mr. McFeely (David Newell) from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, on the Frogtown Stage, at the Toledo Festival of the Arts. The other one is a Wednesday, 8/30/89 Blade ad for “Team Up Toledo.” September 1989 ads, from the online archives of The Toledo Blade are on the way, and next Sunday, 1980s Halloween ads will be added to the Halloween Ads gallery.
