May 20, 2014: A Local TV Headache

I've added nine more ads since last time, all from July 1993, plus one more Random Pages gallery addition, a Sunday, 7/18/93 Blade "Behind the News" Section story by Tom Ensign, "A Local TV Headache," about the start of negotiations for "retransmission consent" of local stations on area cable systems, including Buckeye in Toledo. And some twenty years later, as you probably know, WNWO-TV recently pulled their signal from Buckeye after negotiations for carriage failed. There's one addition to the Channel 24 gallery, a Saturday, 7/24/93 ad for The Editors, with Blade associate editors John Nichols and Richard Paton hosting mayoral candidate Paula Pennypacker. There are five additions to the Buckeye CableSystem gallery, starting with a Friday, 7/16/93 ad for "The Greatest Show on Earth" on the Family Channel, followed by a Saturday, 7/17/93 ad for The Hidden Room on Lifetime. Next is a Wednesday, 7/21/93 ad for "Blood and Orchids" on TBS, followed by a Saturday, 7/24/93 ad for Mary Tyler Moore on Nick-at-Nite. There's also a Monday, 7/26/93 ad for Chris Ledoux & Suzy Bogguss: Rockin' & Ropin' on TNN. There are two additions to the ToledoVision 5 gallery, both for movies, a Thursday, 7/22/93 ad for "The Prince and the Pauper" on The Big Show and a Friday, 7/23/93 ad for "Spaced Invaders" on Eerie Street Theatre. Today's last ad is an addition to the Other Vintage ads gallery, a Sunday, 7/25/93 ad for 1-800-DETROIT (..."Detroit. Expect A Lot."). More July 1993 ads and August 1993 ads, from the online archives of The Toledo Blade are on the way...
