September 30, 2012: Puzzled, Toledo?

 

I added eighteen more ads today, all from December, 1978 plus four more Random Pages gallery additions from Peach Sections of The Blade. The first one is a Wednesday, 12/6/78 story, “Storer Selling WSPD Radio.” After the sale was complete WSPD-TV became WTVG. Next are two stories by Norman Dresser, a Thursday, 12/7/78 story, “John Saunders of Ch. 13 Retiring After 32 Years” and a Tuesday, 12/12/78 story, “Toledo Pay TV Going Into Orbit,” about The CableSystem getting Showtime via satellite. The last one is a Friday, 12/29/78 story, “Ch. 30's Fund Drive Nets Over $50,000.” Include below that story is a Thursday, 1/4/79 correction, “Pledge Figure In Error.” There are five additions to the Channel 11 gallery, including four for movies on The Big Show, a Thursday, 12/7/78 ad for “The Love Machine,” a Thursday, 12/21/78 ad for “Lilies of the Field” (Sidney Poitier), a Wednesday, 12/27/78 ad for “Marooned” and a Friday, 12/28/78 ad for “Cactus Flower” (Goldie Hawn, Walter Matthau, Jack Weston, Ingrid Bergman). There's also a Tuesday, 12/12/78 ad for an Ohio State vs Louisville basketball game. There's one more in the Channel 11 News gallery, a Tuesday, 12/5/78 ad for Toledo Eleven News (“puzzled, toledo?”) There's just one addition to the Channel 13 gallery, a Monday, 12/11/78 ad for the 13 Strong / Goaldiggers Hockey Clinic, at the Toledo Sports Arena. There are five additions to the PBS gallery, all for channel 30 and four of them for their Winterfest programming. There's a Saturday, 12/2/78 ad for “Gulliver's Travels,” James Michener's World, “Poland: The Will to Be,” The Long Search, “West Meets East,” and two movies, “The Lady Vanishes” and “Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon.” Next is a Monday, 12/4/78 ad for “Miracle of 34th Street” and The Many Faces of Love, followed by a Wednesday, 12/6/78 ad for The Cousteau Odyssey, “Blind Prophets of Easter Island” and Great Performances, “Mourning Becomes Electra.” There's also a Wednesday, 12/7/78 ad for two more movies, “Gung Ho” and “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” and a Tuesday, 12/19/78 ad for Vibrations, (Stanley Cowell). There are three additions to the Buckeye CableSystem gallery, all for programs on Showtime. There's a Monday, 12/4/78 ad, a Monday, 12/11/78 ad, and a Saturday, 12/23/78 ad, for “The Spy Who Loved Me.” And there are three additions to the Other Vintage ads gallery, including two Tuesday, 12/5/78 ads for retailers in Sylvania, the first ad for Rock Steady Records, and the second ad for Chandler's Ace Hardware. There's also a Thursday, 12/7/78 ad for the grand opening of the Kroger Superstore on East Manhattan Blvd. January 1979 ads from the online archives of The Toledo Blade, are on the way.
