September 26, 2013: Tomorrow's Black History

 

I added nine more ads today, all from January 1989, plus three more Random Pages gallery additions from Peach Sections of the Blade, all by Tom Ensign. There's a Thursday, 1/5/89 item about Marilou Johanek, who replaced the late Sue Parcell as co-anchor on Channel 11. Ms. Johanek still in Toledo today, writing for The Blade. Next is a Thursday, 1/12/89 story, “New Radio Station to Make Debut,” about WHFD-FM becoming WMTR-FM (95.9 in Archbold). There's also a Saturday, 1/21/89 story, “WRED to Hit Airwaves Monday.” There are two additions to the Channel 11 gallery, including a Monday, 1/23/89 ad for a special with John Hartford, To Fuel Our Dreams. It sounds like it was an informercial, more-or-less. The other one is a Saturday, 1/28/89 ad for WTOL-TV's Super 11 Warehouse Sale at Seagate Centre. There are two more Channel 11 ads in the News/Special Reports Ads gallery, both for Toledo 11 News Black History Month reports, a Sunday, 1/29/89 TV Tab ad, and a Monday, 1/30/89 ad (Jeff Heitz, Marilou Johanek). There's one addition to the PBS gallery, a Saturday, 1/28/89 ad for The New Yankee Workshop (Norm Abram) on Channel 30, underwritten locally by The Andersons. There's one addition to the Radio Station Ads gallery, a Thursday, 1/19/89 ad for “Real Country, No Bull,” on WOHO-AM 1470. The last three ads today are additions to the Other Vintage ads gallery, all of the full-page ads. First is a Monday, 1/16/89 ad for the 1989 March of Dimes Mothers March, sponsored by Food Town. Next is a Monday, 1/23/89 ad for the 1989 Easter Seals Talent Showcase at Friar Tuck's Bijou, one of the sponsors, along with Kroger, Lion Stores and WTVG-TV 13. There's also a Tuesday, 1/31/89 ad for “Roughy Savings” at Cub Foods. February 1989 ads, from the online archives of The Toledo Blade are on the way...
