September 10, 2013: Panda Watch

I added thirteen more ads today, all from May 1988, the visit to the Toledo Zoo by the Pandas, Le Le and Nan Nan being the subject of many of today's ads. There's also one Random Pages gallery addition, a Tuesday, 5/24/88 Blade Peach Section story by Tom Ensign, “Panda-Escort Duty Brings Newsfolk More Than Facts.” There are four additions to the News/Special Reports Ads gallery, all for Toledo 11 News “PandaWatch” reports by Sue Parcell, a Tuesday, 5/10/88 ad (“From Nation's Capitol), a Monday, 5/16/88 ad (“Passport to China”), a Monday, 5/23/88 ad (PandaWatch Preview), and a Tuesday, 5/24/88 ad (“The Bear Fanfare”). There's one addition to the Vintage Cable Ads gallery, a Wednesday, 5/18/88 ad for the Stanley Cup finals on ESPN, and two additions to the Radio Station Ads gallery. The first one is a Wednesday, 5/11/88 ad for the “Free-Money Sweepstakes” on Jack Mitchell and Mary Beth Zolik's morning show on WKKO-FM 99.9 and WTOD-AM 1560. It's followed by a Friday, 5/27/88 ad for WMHE-FM 92.5's “Favorite Car Contest.” The rest of today's ads are additions to the Other Vintage ads gallery. There are four Kroger ads including two full-page ads for the upcoming Jamie Farr Toledo Classic at Glengarry Country Club, a Saturday, 5/14/88 ad, and a Monday, 5/23/88 ad. The other two Kroger ads are for the visiting Pandas, a Sunday, 5/15/88 two-page ad, and another 5/23/88 full-page ad. There's also another 5/15/88 full-page ad, this one for Food Town, raising money for the Toledo Zoo by selling Panda Bears.

The last of today's ads is a Monday, 5/16/88 full-page ad for Toledo's “Rally by the River” on May 20th, sponsored by WIOT-FM 104 / WCWA-AM 1230 and Kroger. June 1988 ads, from the online archives of The Toledo Blade are on the way...
