June 6, 2013: B.S. in the Afternoon

I added seven more ads today, all from June 1985, plus four more Random Pages gallery additions from The Blade. There's a Sunday, 6/2/85 Entertainment Section story by Richard Paton, “A Bold Proposal For Rock and Roll Radio.” Next are two Peach Section stories, a Friday, 6/7/85 story, “New Defiance FM Station To Start Operations June 25” and a Friday, 6/14/85 AP story, “Detroit Comedy Program Finally Makes It To HBO,” about Mike Binder's special, The Detroit Comedy Jam. There's also a Sunday, 6/16/85 TV Tab picture of William Boyd as Hopalong Cassidy, which was being shown on The Disney Channel. I also wanted to mention the passing of long-time Blade writer, Seymour Rothman. The Blade obituary is here. Many of his “Electronic Press Box” stories and some others are posted on this site. Just type his name into the search box. There are no ads today for channels 11, 13 and 24, but there is one addition to the PBS gallery for channel 30, a Monday, 6/3/85 ad for Divorce: Endings and New Beginnings, “Legal Issues,” part one of a five-part series produced by WGTE-TV. There are two additions to the Buckeye CableSystem gallery, including a Sunday, 6/2/85 ad for The Disney Channel Free-Preview Weekend. There's also a Sunday, 6/16/85 ad for a personal appearance by Nickelodeon's Dangermouse at the Crosby Gardens Festival of the Arts. There are two additions to the Radio Station Ads gallery, both for WSPD-AM 1370. The first one is a Wednesday, 6/5/85 ad for Rich Hoffer's Mid-day show, followed by a Wednesday, 6/12/85 ad for “B.S. In the Afternoon” (Bill Stewart and Mike Jablonski). I think this is the first time the title of a post came from a radio station ad. There are also two additions to the Other Vintage ads gallery, a Tuesday, 6/4/85 ad for a Maxwell House Coffee Free Toledo Zoo Admission offer, and a Thursday, 6/13/85 ad for Heatherdowns Electronics Video-Pro Service. I actually had some VCRs repaired there. July 1985 ads from the online archives of The Toledo Blade are on the way...
