May 30, 2013: Swing Down Memory Lane

 

I added fourteen more ads today, all from March 1985, plus four more Random Pages gallery additions from Peach Sections of The Blade. The first one is a Tuesday, 3/5/85 story, “Sports Time Sets Operations End,” followed by a Thursday, 3/7/85 story, “Movies, Specials Slated For WGTE's Festival '85.” Next is a Thursday, 3/21/85 story, “Mud Hens Unlikely To Get Radio Contract For Season.” I'll post a follow-up story to this one next time. There's also a Wednesday, 3/27/85 story, “CableSystem To Carry 125 Detroit Tigers Games.” The first and last stories posted today mention the start of the CableSystem's carraige of PASS and the last one indicates when they began carrying Video Hits One (VH-1) and the Weather Channel. There are no ads today for channels 11 and 13 and there's just one addition to the Channel 24 gallery, a Friday, 3/29/85 ad for the 1985 Easter Seal Telethon, hosted by Paula and Paul W. Smith. There are nine additions to the PBS gallery, all for channel 30, most of them for their Festival '85 (TV Worth Paying For) programming. There's a Wednesday, 3/1/85 ad for Great Moments With National Geographic, and a Friday, 3/15/85 ad for Wall $treet Week with Louis Rukeyser, “An Investment Primer II.” Next is a Saturday, 3/16/85 ad for “Country Western Favorites,” Legends of Country Music, “The Far Country” and Charlie Pride at Devil's Lake, followed by a Tuesday, 3/19/85 ad for “The Benny Goodman Story” (Swing Down Memory Lane). There's also a Wednesday, 3/20/85 ad for Rodgers and Hammerstein: The Sound of American Music, hosted by Mary Martin, and two Thursday, 3/21/85 ads, the first one for The Living Planet, “The Sky Above” and the second one for Great Performances, “Judy Garland: The Concert Years.” There's a Tuesday, 3/26/85 ad as well, for an Issues Ohio Special Report, “The Ohio Savings and Loan Crisis,” and the last channel 30 ad today is a Wednesday, 3/27/85 ad, thanking viewers for their supports of the Festival '85 membership drive. There's one addition to the Buckeye CableSystem gallery, a Sunday, 3/30/85 full-page TV Tab ad for their free preview weekend for Easter Seals, of the Disney Channel, Showtime and the Movie Channel. There's also one addition to the Vintage Cable Ads gallery, it's another 3/30/85 TV Tab ad, for Radio City Music Hall Welcomes the Nashville Network (Lacy J. Dalton, Ricky Skaggs, Ray Charles, Exile, George Jones, Mickey Gilley). There's one addition to the Radio Station Ads gallery, a Friday, 3/29/85 ad for the NCAA Basketball Playoffs on WCWA-AM 1230. Today's last ad is an addition to the Other Vintage ads gallery, a Friday, 3/22/85 ad for Tony Packo's Cafe, now open on Sundays.
