May 21, 2013: Outstanding in Their Field

 

I added nineteen more ads today, all from October 1984. There's one addition to the Channel 11 News gallery, a Monday, 10/15/84 ad, one of two Lane's Drug Store ads for a 2-minute commercial shown on evening news programs. The other ad is one of three additions to the Channel 13 News gallery, a Tuesday, 10/16/84 ad. Next is a Wednesday, 10/17/84 ad for WTVG's three sports reporters, John Gillespie, Frank Gilhooley and Dan Saevig, described in the ad as being “outstanding in their field.” There's also a Tuesday, 10/20/84 ad, reminding people to vote in the upcoming election and watch the “Decision 84” results on 13 News. There are two additions to the PBS gallery, a Wednesday, 10/10/84 ad for The Brain, “The Enlightened Machine” on channel 30, and a Monday, 10/15/84 Allied Corporation ad for Nova, “The National Science Test.” There are two additions to the the Buckeye CableSystem gallery, including a Thursday, 10/4/84 ad, another one about stealing cable TV. There's also a Saturday, 10/6/84 ad, another one for The Blade News Channels 11 and 13. There are also two additions to the CableSystem Channel 5 gallery, a Tuesday, 10/9/84 ad for a Ferris State at Bowling Green CCHA game, and a Saturday, 10/13/84 ad for four Sports Time college football games, Pittsburgh at S. Carolina, Eastern Michigan at N. Illinois, USC at Oregon and Missouri at Nebraska. There are five additions to the Radio Station Ads gallery, including a Friday, 10/5/84 ad for WWWM-FM 105.5 (Good Vibrations). This is the first ad on the site for 3WM. There's also a Wednesday, 10/17/84 ad for WJYM-AM 730, the first one here for that station as well. The other three are for “Real Music” WCWA-AM 1230, a Tuesday, 10/16/84 ad (Great News!), a Thursday, 10/18/84 ad (Big Bands, Ballads and Broadway), and a Thursday, 10/25/84 ad for the “Big Band Party,” featuring the Johnny Knorr Orchestra at the Sheraton Westgate. The last four ads today are additions to the Other Vintage ads gallery. There's another one for Hills, a Thursday, 10/11/84 full-page ad for the grand opening of the Maumee store. The ad also indicated that they discounted the price of TV Guide. There's also a Saturday, 10/13/84 ad thanking those who deliver The Blade (We Applaud Their Feat). Next is another ad for Lane's, a Sunday, 10/21/84 full-page ad for their new computerized pharmacy data system. The last ad today is a Friday, 10/31/84 politcal ad for channel 13's Frank Venner, who was running for congress against Marcy Kaptur. November 1984 ads from the online archives of The Toledo Blade are on the way...
