October 20, 2013: Meet Dr. Shock

 

I added 23 more ads today, all additions to the Halloween Ads gallery. There are two from 1980, a Sunday, 8/31/80 ad for Kiggins Kostumes in Perrysburg, and a Monday, 10/27/80 ad for The Big Show on Channel 11 (“Celebrate Halloween all week long and let The Big Show scare the daylights out of your afternoon!”). The movies that week were “Theatre of Blood,” “Terror of Mechagodzilla,” “Terror in the Wax Museum,” “War of the Gargantuas” and “The Legend of Hell House.” There are three from 1983, including a Wednesday, 10/19/83 ad for Westgate's 26th Anniversary Sale, where you could get a pumpkin for 26 cents. Next is another 10/19/83 ad, for Toys “R” Us Halloween items, followed by a Friday, 10/21/83 ad for Hills 9th Annual Witch Hunt, the first of five Hiils ads. There are three more from 1984, including a Friday, 10/19/84 ad for Hills 10th Annual Pumpkin Hunt. There's also a Wednesday, 10/24/84 ad for Halloween treats at Kroger, and a Thursday, 10/25/84 ad for Little Caesars (“Get a free pumpkin with any large Pizza! Pizza!”). There's just one 1985 ad, a Friday, 10/18/85 ad for Hills 11th Annual Pumpkin Hunt. There are two from 1986, a Monday, 10/13/86 ad for Kroger (Be a Kroger “Hallowinner”!) and a Friday, 10/17/86 ad for Hills 12th Annual Pumpkin Hunt. There are five from 1987, including a Monday, 10/12/87 ad for Kroger (Get a free Apple!). Next is a Wednesday, 10/21/87 ad for Polaroid (“Watch out for supernatural creatures traveling in packs”), followed by a Thursday, 10/22/87 ad for ”The Sounds of Halloween” at Hallmark stores. There are two Saturday, 10/31/87 ads, the first ad for Halloween episodes of two Fox Saturday night shows on Channel 36, Werewolf, “All Hallow'd Eve” and The New Adventures of Beans Baxter, “A Nightmare on Beans' Street.” The second ad is for Highland's Halloween “Boo Boo” Sale. There are two 1988 full-page ads, a Monday, 10/17/88 ad for Food Town's free safe Halloween trick or treat bag, and a Monday, 10/24/88 ad for the fifth annual Toledo City Parks Pumpkinarama, held at Ottawa Park and sponsored by WMHE-FM and Kroger. The remaining five ads are all from 1989, including a Thursday, 10/17/89 ad for Hollywood Dream Factory, where you could meet Dr. Shock, from Channel 36's X-Ray Chiller Theater. Next is a Friday, 10/20/89 ad for Hills 15th Annual Pumpkin Hunt, followed by a Thursday, 10/26/89 full-page ad for Food Town (Have a frightfully good Halloween!). There's also a Friday, 10/27/89 ad for Halloween at North Towne Square, and another one for Food Town, a Tuesday, 10/31/89 ad for Halloween photo specials!
