January 24, 2013: The Ones to Count On

 

I added fifteen more ads today, all from March, 1981, plus four more Random Pages gallery additions from Peach Sections of The Blade. There are some Thursday, 3/5/81 Norman Dresser items, about WGLE-FM and Showtime and ESPN on The CableSystem. Next is a Saturday, 3/7/81 story by Seymour Rothman, “PBA Bowling—Living With Sudden Death,” followed by a Tuesday, 3/10/81 item, “WTOD Broadcasts Country Special.” And there's another one by Norman Dresser, a Thursday, 3/12/81 story, “CBS Displays TV System With Better Picture, Sound.” There's one addition to the Channel 11 gallery, a Tuesday, 3/3/81 ad for PM Magazine which had a segment on Perrysburg singer, Charlene Hill. There are also two additions to the Channel 11 News gallery, a Wednesday, 3/4/81 ad for Charles Merlin Umpenhour at the Woodville Mall and a Saturday, 3/7/81 ad for weekend anchor Bob Lawrence. There are two more in the News/Special Reports Ads gallery, including a Monday, 3/2/81 ad for two reports, a Jill Olmstead series, “When the Classroom Goes to Court” and a Rebecca Hanshaw series, “Going to the Movies.” There's also a Friday, 3/6/81 ad for a Toledo Eleven News salute to Walter Cronkite. This would be his last day of anchoring The CBS Evening News. There are six additions to the PBS gallery, all for program on channel 30. There's a Friday, 3/6/81 ad for The Greatest Adventure, narrated by Orson Welles, followed by a Saturday, 3/7/81 ad for A Special Celebration With Steve Allen, part of “Festival Nights.” Next is a Wednesday, 3/11/81 ad for another National Geographic Special, “National Parks: Playground or Paradise?” followed by a Wednesday, 3/11/81 ad for The Life of Adolph Hitler. There's also a Thursday, 3/12/81 ad for Great Performances, “On Giant's Shoulders” and a Sunday, 3/15/81 ad for three Greer Garson movies, “Blossoms in the Dust,” “Mrs. Parkington” and “Pride and Prejudice.” There are three more additions to the Other Vintage ads gallery, including a Tuesday, 3/10/81 ad for ON Subscription TV through Kroma Electronics. There are two more for the new North Town Square Mall, a Thursday, 3/12/81 ad for the grand opening, which featured appearances by Paul W. Smith, Jamie Farr, Billy Sims, and Disney characters, and another 3/12/81 ad for York Steak House, where you could meet Mickey Mouse.
