March 30, 2012: Channel 100 is Here!

 

I added 14 more ads today, from August and September, 1973 plus six more Random Pages gallery additions, from Peach Sections of The Blade. The first four stories are by Norman Dresser. There's a Tuesday, 8/14/73 story, "More Staff Changes Made at WCWA Radio," a Thursday, 8/18/73 story, "Toledo To Get New TV Service," about Channel 100 on Buckeye Cablevision (see two-page ad below), and two Tuesday, 8/21/73 stories, "WTOD To Broadcast Michigan Football" and "Kutz Will Be Missed By Toledo Radio Fans," about the death of Eddie Kutz. There's also a Tuesday, 8/28/73 story, "Hydroplane Race To Be Televised" (see channel 11 ad below), and two, Saturday, 9/1/73 stories, "Jerry Lewis Telethon To Be On Ch. 24" and "WABJ In Adrian To Have Radiothon." There are four more Thursday, 9/6/73 stories by Norman Dresser, "WSPD Radio To Change Format," "Jerry Lewis Telethon Pledges Total $100,000," "Cablevision, Radio Grid Covergae Set" and "WBGU Broadcasts Ann Arbor Festival." There's one ad in the Channel 11 gallery, a Sunday, 9/2/73 ad for the Toledo Clear Water Cup Races. There are two Channel 24 gallery ads for The New Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon , a Tuesday, 8/14/73 ad (Johnny Carson) and a Thursday, 8/18/73 ad. There's one in the Buckeye Cablevision gallery, a Tuesday, 8/28/73 two-page ad for Channel 100, a new Pay-TV service, and there's one in the Channel 5 gallery, a Sunday, 8/19/73 ad for Jabberwocky. There are six in the Radio Station Ads gallery, including two for WCWA-AM 1230. There's a Friday, 8/10/73 ad and a Thursday, 8/16/73 ad, for their "Seaway 60 to the Sea" contest. Next is a Wednesday, 8/29/73 ad for WSPD's hourly reports from The USGA Amateur Championship from Toledo's Inverness Country Club, followed by a Saturday, 9/1/73 ad for WPOS-FM's 7th anniversary (Bill Glass, Doug Oldham, Mel Johnson). There's another one for WSPD's new format, a Tuesday, 9/4/73 ad, and a Monday, 9/10/73 ad for the Muhammad Ali vs. Ken Norton fight, on WKLR-FM 99.9 (Ali won by a split decision). Today's last three ads, as usual, are in the Other Vintage ads gallery. There's a Wednesday, 8/15/73 full-page ad for Southwyck Mall's first anniverasry celebration, a Monday, 8/20/73 ad for the Volkswagen Beetle, available in Toledo at Lake Port VW and Will Dennis VW, and a Wednesday, 8/22/73 ad for the 8th annual German-American Festival, at the Lucas County Recreation Center.
