October 25, 2012: The Big Show Goes to War

 

I added fourteen more ads today, all from July, 1979 plus four more Random Pages gallery additions, from Peach Sections of The Blade. There are three by Norman Dresser, including Tuesday, 7/17/79 stories, “Nielsen Ratings To Include Cablevision For First Time” and “About People And Events In World Of Television.” Next is a Tuesday, 7/24/79 story, “Chs. 11, 24 Virtually Tied In Prime-Time TV Viewing” and also includes other items about WGTE's Roberta (Tobe) Snow and WDHO's William Shock. There are also some Friday, 7/27/79 stories, “Joe Ashton Gets New Ch. 11 Post; Meteorologist Named,” about Charles Merlin Umpenhour, and “Dissatisfaction Found With Regular Television.” And there's a Saturday, 7/28/79 “Electronic Press Box” story by Seymour Rothman, “New Network Coming And Probably Going,” about the sports network ESPN. There are two additions to the Channel 11 gallery, including a Monday, 7/9/79 ad for The Big Show (Goes To War!) Movies shown that week were “Anzio,” “Morituri,” “None but the Brave,” “Battle Hymn” & “Corvette K-225." There's also a Tuesday, 7/10/79 ad for The Brady Bunch, which WTOL showed during the summer instead of Crosswits. There are also two additions to the Channel 24 gallery, a Friday, 7/6/79 ad for a rerun of The Bastard and a Tuesday, 7/10/79 ad for The 9th Annual Senior Olympics, sponsored by Blue Cross & Blue Shield. There are four additions to the PBS gallery, all channel 30 ads dealing with them being off-the-air. There's a Thursday, 7/12/79 ad, a Tuesday, 7/17/79 ad, a Tuesday, 7/24/79 ad and a Saturday, 7/28/79 ad. There are two additions to the Buckeye CableSystem gallery, a Monday, 7/2/79 ad for their “What A Gas 5,000 Gallon Giveaway” and a Monday, 7/16/79 ad for channel 30 (being available on cable channel 3, even while they're off-the-air). There's also a Buckeye Ch. 5 gallery addition, a Friday, 7/6/79 ad for The Jupiter Encounter. The last three of today's ads are additions to the Other Vintage ads gallery, including a Wednesday, 7/11/79 full-page ad for the Woodville Mall's Annual Summer Sidewalk Sale, featuring the WOHO “Sprite Music Van.” Next is a Saturday, 7/14/79 ad for People's Savings, with Don Edwards, followed by a Friday, 7/31/79 ad for “Disco Disney” at the Franklin Park Mall.
