January 30, 2012: It's Not Nice to Fool Mother Nature

I added 26 more ads from 41 years ago (January 1971) plus three more Random Pages gallery additions from the Blade's Peach Section. There's a Tuesday, 1/12/71 TV Highlights listing for the series premiere episode of All in the Family, "And Justice For All," on CBS, and there's a Wednesday, 1/13/71 review of that show by Norman Dresser. Also included are stories on Paul Harvey moving from WOHO to WTTO Radio and Channel 13 carrying an hour-long documentary on the Ohio Gubernatorial inauguration. There are also two Friday, 1/22/71 stories from the Blade's Washington Bureau, "Bowling Green May get Ch. 27" and "WOHO Cancels TV Application." There's just one ad in the Channel 11 gallery, a Tuesday, 1/19/71 ad for The David Frost Show (Paul Newman). There's one more channel 11 ad in the the News/Special Reports Ads gallery, a Tuesday, 1/26/71 ad for part two of "What Does a Prison Make" on Project Eleven. There's also one from channel 13 in that gallery, a Monday, 1/18/71 ad for a special report on the TARTA levy, End of the Line? There's also just one ad in the Channel 13 gallery, a Friday, 1/15/71 ad for the NBC special, Elephant Country, narrated by Cliff Robertson and sponsored by Columbia Gas. There's one more WSPD-TV ad in the Channel 13 News gallery, a Tuesday, 1/26/71 ad for The Venner-Ward Report with a picture of a very young Frank Gilhooley in the arms of Babe Ruth, posing with his father. There are nine ads in the Channel 24 gallery including a Wednesday, 1/20/71 ad for The Young Lawyers "Legal Maneuver" (Eli Wallach, Lee. J. Cobb). Next is a Thursday, 1/21/71 ad for Make Room For Granddaddy "Lucy and the Lecher" (Lucille Ball), a Friday, 1/22/71 ad for The Odd Couple (Tony Randall, jack Klugman) which didn't even air on that night because of President Nixon's State of the Union Address, and a Saturday, 1/23/71 ad for The Lawrence Welk Show. There's also a Sunday, 1/24/71 ad for The FBI "The Eye of the Needle" (Efrem Zimbalist, Jr.), a Monday, 1/25/71 ad for Let's Make a Deal (Monty Hall) and a Wednesday, 1/28/71 ad for The Smith Family "The Ex-Con" (Henry Fonda, Janet Blair, a long-haired Ron Howard, Darleen Carr, Michael-James Wixted). Next is a Thursday, 1/28/71 ad for Alias Smith and Jones "Exit From Wickenburg" (Ben Murphy, Pete Duel) and a Saturday, 1/30/71 ad for The Pearl Bailey Show. There's one more in the Channel 24 News gallery, another Saturday, 1/23/71 ad for The ABC Saturday Evening News with Sam Donaldson. There are three in the Radio Station Ads gallery, a Saturday, 1/16/71 ad for a WTOD-sponsored Penny-Pitch Basketball game at Start High School and two WSPD-AM 1370 ads. There's a Tuesday, 1/19/71 ad for TARTA levy results and a Tuesday, 1/26/71 ad proclaiming that they're number 1 in the country. There are eight ads in the Other Vintage ads gallery including a Wednesday, 1/13/71 ad for Chiffon Margarine with Dena Dietrich. "It's not nice to fool mother nature" was probably one of the best known lines from 1970s TV commercials. I hadn't thought about those commercials for years prior to running across this ad in the Blade. Here's one on You Tube. There's also a Friday, 1/22/71 full-page ad for "Disney On Parade" at the Woodville Mall, although the line "Woodville Mall is no 'Mickey Mouse' shopping complex" is no longer true, of course. Next is a Saturday, 1/23/71 ad for an appearance by The Bob Seger System at Teddy's Warehouse, followed by five Friday, 1/28/71 ads for five Toledo TV Antenna dealers, Marko, Tower Mart, Congratz, Skyline and Soldner. February 1971 ads from the online archives of The Toledo Blade are on the way...
