January 27, 2012: City on the Grow

I added sixteen scans of TV Guide pages today as requested by Mackenzie. They're all in the Random Pages gallery. Fifteen are from the July 8-14, 1989 Detroit Edition. There are seven prime-time grids for Saturday, 7/8/89, Sunday, 7/9/89, Monday, 7/10/89, Tuesday, 7/11/89, Wednesday, 7/12/89 (inclusing 1-2PM listings), Thursday, 7/13/89 and Friday, 7/14/89. The others are for the rest of the Wednesday pages, 5-8AM, 8AM-1PM, 2-6PM (which replaces an image I had previously uploaded), 6-8PM (includes ad for Growing Pains and Just the Ten of Us, on ABC), More 8PM listings (includes full-page ad for The Princes Trust: A Rock and Roll Gala), 8-10PM, 10PM-1:30AM & 1:35-4:50AM early Thursday morning. There's also Saturday, 12/16/89 page which includes a listing for the 12:30 Dallas Cowboys - New York Giants game on CBS. I also added six more ads from January 1971 plus one more Random Pages gallery addition, a Tuesday, 1/4/71 Norman Dresser column titled "Ch. 11 to Carry 'The David Frost Show'" which also included several more stories, "Two Top Programs to Bow on Public TV," "Ch. 24 Schedules Two New Programs," about This Is Your Life and Betty White's Pet Set, "New CBS Sitcom Bows Next Tuesday," about All in the Family, "'Pearl Bailey Show' to Debut on ABC-TV" and "NBC Changing Program Hours," an AP story about the upcoming prime-time access rule. 1971 was also when cigarette adverstising on TV ended. The ban started on January 2 so they could still advertise on the NewYear's Day bowl games. There are two ads in the Channel 11 gallery, a Friday, 1/8/71 ad for the series premiere of The New Andy Griffith Show, "My Friend, the Mayor" and a Sunday, 1/10/71 ad for "The Kentuckian" on The Sunday Show (Burt Lancaster). There are three more WTOL-TV ads in the News/Special Reports Ads gallery. There's a Monday, 1/4/71 ad for "Toledo '71: City on the Grow" on News/90, a Monday, 1/11/71 ad for "No More Busses?" a series of George Wolf reports, also on News/90, and a Tuesday, 1/12/71 ad for Project Eleven "What Does a Prison Make?" with special projects director Joe Gillis. There's one more ad in the Channel 24 gallery, a Thursday, 1/11/71 ad for Changing Scene III on ABC (Engelbert Humperdinck, Barbara Eden, Don Adams).

For those in the Toledo area, ME-TV is coming to WTOL-TV 11.2 (Buckeye Cable Ch. 111) on Monday! Two Random Pages Gallery additions on the premiere of All in the Family and more 1971 ads from the online archives of The Toledo Blade are on the way...
