May 25, 2011: The Magic of Broadcasting

I added 17 more ads today, from April, May and June 1966 plus another three items in the Random Pages gallery. The first one was a Monday, 5/2/66 notice that channel 24 was scheduled to be on the air that evening. It would be the next day when they finally got on the air. Next is a Wednesday, 5/11/66 item about Toledoan Jamie Farr's script for that evening's Blue Light episode on ABC. I also included the program listing for the episode, titled "Field of Dishonor," and there's a Friday, 5/13/66 Ray Oviatt 'On the Beam' column titled "Brilliant Future Forseen for ETV." The FCC's Robert E. Lee was speaking at the dedication for WBGU's new studios at BGSU. There are five ads in the Channel 11 gallery including two for NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, which was moving from ABC affilate channel 13 to CBS affiliate channel 11 on May 2. There's a Saturday 4/30/66 ad and a Sunday, 5/1/66 ad. I previously uploaded a Monday, 5/2/66 ad which can be found here. There's another 5/1/66 ad for the CBS special The Magic of Broadcasting, a Tuesday, 5/24/66 ad for the Lamson's sponsored special, A Fashion Tour of Toledo in Cotton and Wednesday, 6/1/66 ad for The One O'Clock Movie "Born Yesterday" (Judy Holliday, William Holden) and The Big Show "Go For Broke" (Van Johnson). There are two in the the Channel 13 gallery, a Monday. 5/2/66 ad for the channel 13 premiere of The Merv Griffin Show (which replaced Movietime 13) and a Thursday, 5/25/66 ad for "Summer Love" (John Saxon, Judy Meredith). This movie aired on channel 13's late movie that replaced The Tonight Show. There are five more in the Channel 24 gallery including two for NBC Tuesday Night at the Movies, a 5/3/66 ad for "The Savage" (Charlton Heston) and a 5/17/66 ad for "The Wheeler Dealers" (Lee Remick, James Garner). There's a 5/5/66 ad for Thursday night shows, The Soupy Sales Show, The Lloyd Thaxton Show, Of Land and Seas, The CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite, the NBC prime-time shows, Daniel Boone "A Rope for Mingo," Laredo "Lazyfoot," Mickie Finn's and The Dean Martin Show, and channel 24's News at Eleven. Fields) and another 5/30/66 ad for a repeat of the Lamson's sponsored special, A Fashion Tour of Toledo in Cotton. That special sounds like what we would now refer to as an "infomercial," having aired on both 11 and 24. There's one more ad in the Channel 24 News gallery, a Sunday, 5/29/66 ad for News at Eleven, with channel 24's first news team, Bill Hartnett, Mort Beach and Joe Jansen.
