May 16, 2011: Eye Guess

I'm going back to the '60s today with 20 more January and February 1966 ads plus two Toledo Blade stories in the Random Pages gallery, both from the 1/6/66 Peach Section. There's an AP story on what was involved in the live broadcast of a TU-Miami basketball game and there's a Richard Doan story on NET setting up a link of its Eastern U.S. stations. There are nine ads in the Channel 11 gallery including a Tuesday, 1/6/66 ad for daytime NBC game show Eye Guess and a Wednesday, 1/5/66 ad for a Bowling Green at Toledo basketball game, sponsored by Food Town. There are seven more for movies on The One O'Clock Movie, The Big Show, Monday Night at the Movies, NBC Saturday Night at the Movies and Hollywood Spectacular. There's a Monday, 1/1/66 ad for "Kiss Them For Me" (Jayne Mansfield, Cary Grant), a Monday, 1/31/66 ad for "Bell, Book and Candle" (Kim Novak) and a Wednesday, 2/2/66 ad for "On the Town" (Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly) and "The Invincible Gladiator" (Richard Harrison), Next is a Saturday, 2/5/66 ad for "Bridge to the Sun" (Carroll Baker) and "The Left Hand of God" (Humphrey Bogart), a Monday, 2/7/66 ad for "David and Bathsheba" (Gregory Peck, Susan Hayward), a Tuesday, 2/8/66 ad for "Love is Better Than Ever" (Elizabeth Taylor) and "Who Done It?" (Bud Abbott, Lou Costello) and a Wednesday, 2/9/66 ad for "The Little Hut" (Ava Gardner) and "Tarzan's Magic Fountain" (Lex Barker). There are eight more in the Channel 13 gallery including a Monday, 1/10/66 ad for two CBS daytime shows, Andy of Mayberry (The Andy Griffith Show) and The Dick Van Dyke (Daytime) Show. It was unusual for channel 13 to carry any CBS shows in 1966, but channel 11 was showing NBC soap operas Morning Star and Paradise Bay, which were both in color, instead of the CBS black and white reruns. There's also a Friday, 1/14/66 ad for The Donna Reed Show, a Monday, 1/7/66 ad for the special, Toledo's Outstanding Young Men Awards and a Tuesday, 1/18/66 ad for The Long, Hot Summer. There's a 1/28/66 ad for Friday Night Movie "Unholy Wife" (Diana Dors), a Wednesday, 2/2/66 ad for The Long Hot Summer "The Intruders" and "Hell Bent for Leather" on Movietime 13 (Audie Murphy), a Saturday, 2/5/66 ad for "Raw Wind in Eden" (Esther Williams, Jeff Chandler) and a Tuesday, 2/8/66 ad for The Fugitive "Shadow of the Swan" (David Jannsen) and "The Cattle Queen" (Ronald Reagan) on Movietime 13. There are three more in the Other Vintage ads gallery, a Wednesday, 1/5/66 ad for Andrew-Toledo Barber College, a Saturday, 1/29/66 ad for Toledo Edison (We watch this TV set so you can watch yours) and a Tuesday, 2/1/66 ad for Carl F. Weissenberger Chevrolet (Bonanza stars Dan Blocker, Michael Landon and Lorne Greene). More vintage ads from the online archives of The Toledo Blade are on the way...
