April 18, 2011: Meet the Mud Hens

I added 20 more ads today, all from April 1965, when the Toledo Mud Hens baseball team resumed playing again, at the Lucas County Recreation Center. There are several "Mud Hens" ads included in today's uploads. There are eight ads in the the Channel 11 gallery including a Monday, 4/12/65 ad for Let My People Go, a David L. Wolper documentary. There are seven more for movies on The Big Show, The One O'Clock Movie, Night Owl Theater and Hollywood Spectacular. There's a Monday, 4/5/65 ad for "The Winning Team" (Ronald Reagan), a Tuesday, 4/6/65 ad for "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and a Wednesday, 4/7/65 ad for "The Easy Way" (Cary Grant). There's also a Thursday, 4/8/65 ad for "The Brigand" (Anthony Dexter, Anthony Quinn), a Saturday, 4/10/65 ad for "Leave Her to Heaven" (Gene Tierney), a Tuesday 4/13/65 ad for "When You're Smiling" (Frankie Laine) and a Wednesday, 4/14/65 ad for "The Lost Weekend" (Ray Milland, Jane Wyman). There are two more in the Channel 13 gallery, a Friday, 4/9/65 ad for two speacials, a repeat of The Conductor, and the YMCA Golden Anniversary Banquet (Art Linkletter at the Commodore Perry Hotel), and a Monday, 4/12/65 ad for a special, Meet the Mudhens and the 1965 Detroit Tigers season opener at Kansas City, on the WJBK Tigers Network. There's one channel 30 ad in the NET gallery, a Monday, 4/5/65 ad for Japan: Answer in the Orient, a special on overpopulation. There are two Thursday, 4/8/65 ads in the Radio Station Ads gallery for Mud Hens broadcasts on WCWA-AM 1230, a National Bank of Toledo ad (Frank Gilhooley, Garry Miller) and a Buckeye Beer ad (Hens Manager Frank Verdi, Frank Gilhooley). There are seven more in the Other Vintage ads gallery. The first one is a Thursday, 4/8/65 Columbia Gas ad (the new Houston Astrodome with gas air-conditioning). There are also four more Thursday, 4/8/65 Mud Hens ads, one for Toledo Trust, one for Toledo Edison, one for Food Town and one for Cain's Chips and Snacks. There's also a Monday 4/12/65 ad for Mud Hens tickets (Opening Day is on the Way!) and I have one more Monday, 4/12/65 ad for The National Bank of Toledo, a "Notice to Disaster Victims" for victims of the Palm Sunday tornadoes. This was just one of many more similar ads for banks and insurance companies.
