April 14, 2010: Happy Holidays!

There are 17 new ads today plus three additional 'Random Pages', all from December 1985 and January 1986 and most of them are for either Christmas specials or New Year's programming. The ABC gallery has one for New Year's Rockin' Eve '86 (Emma Samms, Ted McGinley) and there are six in the CBS gallery, one for The 10th Anniversary Johnny Cash Christmas Special (Jerry Lee Lewis, June Carter Cash, John Carter Cash, Roseanne Cash, Larry Gatlin), one for the premiere of The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, one for Guiding Light (Real drama doesn't take a holiday), one for a CBS Special Movie Presentation of "A Christmas Carol" (George C. Scott), one for 1986 New Year's Day programs (Cotton Bowl Parade (Ana Alicia, Ken Kercheval, Peter Scolari, Martha Smith), Tournament of Roses Parade (Bob Barker, Bruce Boxleitner, Mary Frann, Joan Van Ark) and The Cotton Bowl (Texas A&M beat Auburn 36-16) and one for the premiere of Happy New Year, Charlie Brown. The NBC gallery has four ads, one for Andy Williams and the NBC Kids Search for Santa, featuring the kids from The Cosby Show, Punky Brewster, Gimme a Break, Silver Spoons and The Facts of Life (link to videos here), one for Mickey's Christmas Carol, one for the NBC daytime premiere of Family Ties (Michael Gross, Meredith Baxter, Michael J. Fox, Justine Bateman, Tina Yothers) and one for NBC's New Year's Day programming, a 2-page ad for the Tournament of Roses Parade, The Fiesta Bowl (Michigan beat Nebraska 27-23), the Rose Bowl (UCLA beat Iowa 45-28) and the Orange Bowl (Oklahoma beat Penn State 25-19). The Vintage Cable Ads gallery has one Lifetime Medical Television ad for Aging & Health: A New Look and the TBS gallery has one for the 1985 Cable Ace Awards (Joe Piscopo, Shelley Duvall) See wikipedia page here. The Random Pages gallery has three additions, one is a TV Guide News Update which has a story on Twilight Zone creative con- sultant, writer Harlan Ellison quitting after his Christmas episode was axed by CBS. There's also two pages of New Year's Day listings (11AM-3:30 PM) and a two-page close-up for the five bowl games played that day, which included the Sugar Bowl (Tennessee beat Miami 35-7). There are also three ads for Dayton station WHIO-TV7 in the Ohio-W. Pennsylvania gallery, one for Solid Gold Christmas, one wishing Happy Holidays and one for The Lou Rawls Parade of Stars Telethon, which also includes a Budweiser ad and a TV Guide close- up.
